Off-Duty Chicago Cop Shoots Burglar in Her Own Home

A female officer shot a burglar in her home on the 7900 block of S. Sacramento, police said.

An off-duty Chicago police officer shot an intruder in her home Friday morning , according to police. 

At about 9:40 a.m. on Sept. 6 the female officer was awoken by noise coming from the first floor of her home on the 7900 block of South Sacramento, police said. 

She went downstairs to investigate and saw a man removing items from her home, police said. She then identified herself as a police officer and told the man to raise his hands in the air.

The man did not listen and began to charge at the officer, police said. She shot her weapon and hit the man, police said. 

The man was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn and the officer was not injured during the encounter, police said.

Like any police shooting, the incident is being investigated by Independent Police Review Authority.
