Man in Van Attempts to Abduct High School Girl

A 16-year-old girl was repeatedly urged to get in a stranger's van just outside of the Morgan Park neighborhood.

Police issued a warning to area residents Thursday afternoon after a man driving a van attempted to lure a high school girl inside.

The incident occurred at 8:25 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 20 in the 700 block of W. 100th Street, 22nd District police said.

A 16-year-old girl was walking to school when a back van with tinted windows and a silver front grill drove up next to her. The male driver asked the girl if she was in high school, police said.

The girl told the man to stop following her. The driver of the van then yelled at the girl three times to get inside, police said. The girl did not recognize the man.

She continued to walk and he eventually drove off.

The van's driver is described by police as a black male between 30 and 35 years old with a neatly trimmed beard.

Police urge you to call 911 if you notice a vehicle that matches that description. They also recommend reminding your children never to enter a stranger's car and to avoid walking alone.
