South Suburban DUI Arrests, May 19

The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending the DUI alcohol limit be lowered to 0.05 ... not that it would do any good for the people on this week's list of Southland DUIs.

  NEW LENOX May 9: Alejandro Aguillon, 22, of the 100 block of Branchaw Boulevard, New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence, making an improper turn and speeding, according to a report. Police stopped Aguillon at about 2:13 a.m. near the intersection of Cedar Road and Terry Ellen Lane. Aguillon was allegedly found under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and released after posting bond. ORLAND PARK April 24: Brian J. Windt, 38, of the 15600 block of Larkspun Lane, Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08 and speeding, according to a report. Windt was on his way home at about 1:20 a.m. from drinking at the House of Blues when he was spotted …

Protesters March Down 95th Street Over Alleged Racial Profiling

About two dozen marchers made their way down 95th Street Saturday afternoon.

Police officers outnumbered protesters by about two-to-one Saturday afternoon as a group of about 25 protesters marched down 95th Street to protest what they allege is widespread racial profiling by the Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments.  Read More: Connect with Patch: Evergreen Park / Oak Lawn/ Beverly-Mt. Arrest Made in Walden Parkway Shooting

Ald. Matt O'Shea says that police have arrested a man in connection with the May 15 shooting.

A man is in custody in connection with the May 15 shooting that occurred on the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway in Beverly.  Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) says that Chicago Police and the U.S. Marshals Service were able to track David Twine, 29, of Matteson, to Arkansas were he was apprehended Friday. Twine was identified by police as the suspect in the incident that left a man in his 30s in critical condition after he was shot multiple times in the foyer of his apartment building. It is believed that the shooting was not a random act and that the victim and suspect knew each other, O'Shea said at the time. Police believe that the shots were fired after an argument between the two men.

May 8: Harold and Kumar would be proud of this trip to White Castle. Joseph Bermejo, 27, of the 9200 block of Brandon Avenue, Chicago, was charged with possession of marijuana, according to an Evergreen Park report. Police saw a car in the rear parking lot of White Castle, 2555 W. 95th St., and reported smelling an odor of marijuana coming from it. When the car tried to leave, a cigar was tossed out of the window. About 0.7 gram of a substance that tested positive for marijuana was found. Megachurch Sex Lawsuit Filed in Will County: Court Supervision

A lawsuit against an imprisoned preacher from Crete and an Indiana megachurch topped the week's court news.

A former megachurch preacher sentenced to 12 years in federal prison in March for carrying on a sexual relationship with a teenage member of his congregation was sued in Will County court. In addition to preacher Jack Schaap, 55, of Crete, the First Baptist Church of Hammond was named as a defendant in the lawsuit. The parents of a teenage girl Schaap had sex with while he was pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hammond filed the lawsuit. The suit identifies the parents as "John Doe and Mary Doe," and the teen as "Jane Doe." The suit gives Jane Doe's date of birth as June 27, 1995. Statement Issued Ahead of Planned Racial Profiling Protest on 95th Street

Evergreen Park Police have alerted residents about a protest against racial profiling that is planned to take place Saturday afternoon on 95th Street.

Legal Woes Surround 'Racial Profiling' Protest Organizer

A protest against alleged profiling by local police departments is scheduled to march down 95th Street this Saturday.

The organizer behind Saturday’s protest in Evergreen Park over alleged racial profiling pleaded guilty to hitting a police officer in a 2009 incident but, in a lawsuit filed against Oak Lawn, claims the department used “excessive force” in the arrest and profiled her in two traffic stops. Eric Chriswell of Burbank is promoting the protest on a Facebook page. She states the march is a response against alleged "racial profiling" by the Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments. Attempts to reach Chriswell have been unsuccessful. Evergreen Park police have declined to comment on the protest, other than to confirm it is scheduled. Police Release Walden Parkway Shooting Suspect's Name and Photo

The Chicago Police Department is hunting for a suspect in yesterday's shooting on the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway and have released his name and picture.

Police are currently searching for the man they believe to be the gunman in yesterday's shooting on the 9900 block of Walden Parkway.  The suspect has been identified as David Twine, 29, of Matteson. Police say he was seen driving a black 2012 Cadillac SRX with a Illinois license plate number P24450. He is considered armed and extremely dangerous, according to police.  The shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m. in the foyer of an apartment building on the 9900 block of South Walden Parkway in Beverly, police said. A man in his 30s was shot multiple times and transported to Advocate Christ Hospital. He was in critical, but stable condition as of last night, according to Ald. DUI Strike Force to Patrol the Neighborhood This Weekend

The Chicago Police Department announced that they will be cracking down on drunken drivers this weekend in the 22nd District.

Drunks beware, the Chicago Police Department has announced that the DUI Strike Force will be out patrolling the 22nd District this weekend.  The program is designed to saturate a particular area with roving police officers who will monitor vehicles for signs that drivers are impaired, according to a news release.  In addition to DUI efforts, officers will also be on the lookout for speeding, alcohol-related and seat belt violations. The mobile Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) unit might also be making an appearance in Beverly, Morgan Park and Mount Greenwood. The unit allows officers to expedite the time it takes to charge an offender with DUI. The mobile unit lets officers issue I-Bonds on site, according to police.  The operation will take …

Protest Planned on 95th Street Over Police Racial Profiling Allegations

A graduate student who has filed a $1.5 million civil suit against Oak Lawn is leading a protest against allegations of racial profiling by Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn police departments.

A protest over alleged racial profiling by area police departments is expected to march through Evergreen Park and Oak Lawn this weekend. Erica Chriswell, a graduate student and hip hop artist, has filed a $1.5 million civil lawsuit against the Village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Police Department, alleging she was the victim of assault and racial slurs during an arrest. Chriswell, who goes by the artist name Eryka Kane, is organizing Saturday's protest. The march is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. near the intersection of 95th Street and Western Avenue and head toward Cicero along 95th Street. Protesters will be marching on the sidewalks.
