Wine Tasting, Veterans Day Parade and Christ Kindl Market Headline This Weekend’s Local Events Lineup

As the nights grow longer and the days grow shorter it’s time to take advantage of every opportunity to have a little fun and avoid the approaching winter blues. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8

Wine Tasting at Stony Creek

Relax after a hard week at work by sampling an excellent selection of wines with delicious pairings at the Stony Creek Golf Complex at 5830 W. 103rd St. in Oak Lawn. Revel in the good life and surrender to the senses in the beautiful dining hall around the stone fireplace. $13. 7 to 10 p.m.

Reavis High School CRAST Presents ‘Hairspray’

The kids from the Company of Actors and Stage Technicians of Reavis High School will be performing their fall musical, Hairspray, at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. General admission $8; students, $6; senior citizens are complimentary. Reavis High School is located at 6034 W. 77th St., in Burbank.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9

5th Annual Blue Island Veterans Day Parade

Show your support for those who served our country and are currently serving by coming out to Blue Island’s Veterans Day Parade stepping off at 11 a.m. Sponsored by American Legion Post 50, this year’s parade theme is “Welcome Home” and features bands, floats and more. The parade route starts at 123rd and Western, proceeds down Western Avenue to Union Street and goes west on Union to Memorial Park where there will be a Classic Car Show and Military Vehicle Exhibit! Immediately after the parade.

Giving Back 2 Becky

A benefit for current Oak Lawn resident Becky Clifford will be held at Bourbon Street from 2 to 7 p.m. Clifford fell and hit her head five years ago and left her a quadriplegic. she continues to face health issues as does her primary caregiver, her mother. A portion of the night’s benefits will also go to families in similar circumstances. Tickets are $30.

Christ Kindl Market and Craft Show

Professional crafters and vendors will be selling their wares for some truly unique Christmas gifts from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church at 97th Street and Brandt Avenue in Oak Lawn. Choose from a wide selection of Christmas and fall décor, candy, nuts, greeting cards and gift wrap, special European bake sale with lots of homemade goods and raffle prizes. Church members will also be serving up a tasty speciality lunch.

EPCHS Music Boosters Pancake Breakfast

The Evergreen Park Community High School Music Boosters will be flipping hotcakes at an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon. Proceeds go toward music programs at the high school.  Adults, $64; seniors and students, $5; children under 10, $4. The pancake breakfast is being held at EPCHS, 9001 S. Kedzie Ave., in Evergreen Park.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10

From Russia With Love

The Southwest Symphony Orchestra celebrating its golden anniversary season tips its hat to Agent 007 with a concert titled From Russian with Love, as the movie of the same marks the Golden Anniversary of its release in 1963. Daydream about Sean Connery as you enjoy featured works by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. The concert starts at 4 p.m. in the Ozinga Auditorium of Trinity Christian College, 6601 W. College Dr. (Rt. 83) in Palos Heights. Tickets range from $5 to $25 and can purchased at the door. Seniors pay $15. Garden Center Services Fashion Show and Lunch

Garden Center Services will be hosting their 57th Annual Fashion Show Luncheon, "A Night in Paris" at the Double Tree Hotel, 5000 W. 127th Street.  Each year, this fun-filled event brings together over 300 friends, family and supporters to raise funds that help maintain the daily supports the organization provides to its clients. Tickets are $50 and includes a three-course meal, raffles, a silent auction and live music.  To purchase tickets or for more information, call Jennifer Georgis at (773) 941-4151 ext 218. Garden Center has facilities in Burbank and Mount Greenwood and provides assistance to adults with disabilities.
