St. John Fisher's Parish Fest Runs Through Sunday

FRIDAY, SEPT. 13

The Great Gatsby 2013 -- The remake of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s magnificent “Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey McGuire and Carey Mulligan is being screened at the Oak Lawn Library, 9427 S. Raymond Ave., at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The movie is FREE.

Zookeeper on the Silver Screen -- The village’s Friday “Movie In the Park” has moved indoors to the Evergreen Park Senior Center, 9547 S. Homan Ave. The fun, 2011 family comedy is FREE and families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and refreshments just as if they were going to picnic. The screening starts at 8 p.m.

OLCHS Trivia Night - The Oak Lawn Community High School speech and drama teams like games, so what better way to raise money than by hosting a trivia night? For twenty bucks a person, anyone can play!  Trivia Night kicks off at 7 p.m. in the Junior-Senior Lounge at OLCHS,  Teams of five or six can compete, and the first ten teams to register through Facebook  can suggest a question category.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams and anyone can win split the pot. 

Richards @ Lemont High -- Fresh off their stunning victory over Batavia last weekend, the 2-0 Richards Bulldogs hit the road for Lemont (1-1). The game at 800 Porter St. in Lemont. Can't make the game? Patch will be streaming it live starting at 7 p.m. so come back then. 

Oak Lawn @ Evergreen Park Football - The Evergreen Park Mustangs (2-0) entertain the Oak Lawn Spartans (1-2) at home at 9901 S. Kedzie. Can’t make the game? Patch will be streaming it live starting at 7 p.m. so come back then.

Bingo at St. Gerald’s - Doors open at 4 p.m., games start at 7 p.m. in Arnold Hall at Family of St. Gerald’s Parish, 9320 Southwest High (@ Central Ave). Bring your dabbers!

SATURDAY, SEPT. 14

Meet Your State Lawmakers -- State Sen. Bill Cunningham (18th District) and State Rep. Kelly Burke (36th District) will be meeting and greeting constituents at the Evergreen Park Library, 9400 S. Troy Ave. All our invited. The event starts at 10 a.m.

Hometown Public Safety Day -- All are welcome at Public Safety Day, which kicks off from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hometown City Hall, 4331 Southwest Highway. This awesome family event features appearances by McGruff, Sparky the Fire Dog and Ronald McDonald (hope he’s not wearing those scary sunglasses) plus fire trucks, K-9 demos, SWAT vehicles, child IDs and a drunk driving simulator. Jump ‘n Fun, food and the ubiquitous split-the-pot raffle are also included. FREE.

South Suburban Republican Family Picnic -- Bring your families and come meet the GOP candidates for governor, statewide offices, congress, the Cook County Commissioner and local offices at an old fashioned family picnic at the Palos Park Recreation Center, 8901 W. 123rd St., in Palos Park. Free beverages and food are provided. The picnic runs from noon to 3 p.m.

Woofstock -- If you think a pretty dog is like a melody, then come on out for the Oak Lawn Park District’s Woofstock Festival for dogs and their peeps at Bailey’s Crossing Dog Park, located at 9910 S. Melvina Ave. The FREE event features contests, a dog fashion show, doggie dashes and vendors. Concessions will be available for purchase. Woofstock is FREE, but donations of dog food, treats and toys are encouraged, which will be distributed to local animal shelters. The fest runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Fisherfest -- St. John Fisher's Parish Fest runs through Sunday, featuring carnival rides, local bands and local food vendors. Local favorites like American English and Sean and Charlie will be taking the stage this weekend. You can find the full entertainment schedule on the fest's website. 

SUNDAY SEPT. 15

Taste of Mt. Greenwood -- Take a bite out of Mt. Greenwood starting at Chicago Agricultural High School parking lot 3857 W 111th St. Hosted by the Mt. Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, the neighborhood taste features 
karate demonstrations, hay rides, a car show and visiting superheroes. Come experience neighborhood cuisine and the best of local business. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
