Rainbow Cone Featured in List of 2013 Taste of Chicago Eateries

It's finally starting to feel like summer and the Taste of Chicago will be here before you know it. City officials announced the lineup earlier this month.

The weather is finally cooperating to make way for Taste of Chicago and among the featured eateries is the always popular Rainbow Cone who traditionally is one of the top-selling vendors.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and the Illinois Restaurant Association announced earlier this month a lineup of 35 restaurants that will be showcased during the five-day food and entertainment festival.

The event will be held in Grant Park from July 10 to 14.

“Taste of Chicago is a great long-standing tradition of summer in the city,” Emanuel said. “As our culinary reputation has grown on the national stage, this event continues to reflect the vibrant and diverse restaurant community of Chicago with old favorites and new, exciting worldwide cuisines. Taste-goers are guaranteed an endless variety of dining options to suit every palate and I am excited to announce the offerings for this summer.”

Alongside Taste of Chicago’s classic favorites, the 2013 event welcomes several newcomers, including Bombay Spice Grill & Wine, featuring healthy Indian fare; French Market favorite Flip Crepes; Lao Ma La Chinese by acclaimed Chef Tony Hu; and the decadent, Southern-inspired Wishbone Restaurant, which has a location slightly south of the North Center community on Lincoln Avenue.

All vendors will showcase signature menu items, as well as the popular “Taste Of” portions priced at $2.50 or cheaper, allowing guests the opportunity to sample an even greater variety of items.

Many will also include Humana Healthier Choice selections for those seeking lighter options.

Admission to Taste of Chicago is free, and tickets for food and beverages can be purchased in strips of 12 tickets for $8. Tickets will also be available for purchase beginning July 1 at Dominick’s grocery stores throughout the Chicagoland area.

“Taste of Chicago truly embodies the city’s dynamic culinary scene,” Sam Toia, President of the Illinois Restaurant Association said, in a news release.

“In keeping with Taste tradition, attendees can expect to explore both long-standing favorites as well as new vendors, many of whose restaurants have been rooted in Chicago for decades. Together, they represent our town’s rich cultures and neighborhoods.”

Whether craving the robust flavors found in African, American, Caribbean, Chinese, German, Indian, Italian, Thai or Vietnamese cuisine—among many others—Chicagoans and visitors won’t want to miss it.
