Saint Rita and Mount Carmel Win First-Round Games, Set to Meet Next Week
It will be a battle of the South Side football powerhouses as the two teams move on to second round play in IHSA Class 7A.
When the playoff brackets were announced for the IHSA Class 7A football playoffs this was the potential matchup all eyes were focused on.
With a pair of Friday night wins, South Side prep football fans will have their dreams come to fruition. Saint Rita and Mount Carmel will face each other next weekend.
The Caravan came up big against Benet Academy with a 49-6 win that easily slid them into second-round action. Mount Carmel quarterback Marko Boricich had three touchdown passes and a touchdown run on the night.
For Saint Rita it was once again quarterback Tommy Mister and his standout mobility that lead the way to victory as he ran for three touchdowns.
Both teams will bring a 9-1 record into next weekend's game, which will be their first matchup since 2005. Mount Carmel beat St. Rita 24-3 earlier this season.
