Will Northern Illinois University's Lynch bring home the trophy to the South Side?

Could the Heisman Trophy be coming to the South Side of Chicago?

Mount Greenwood's own Jordan Lynch has been named one of six finalists for the nation's most prestigious college football prize.

Lynch plays quarterback for Northern Illinois University and has racked up huge numbers during the Huskies' stellar 12-1 season.

Lynch has rushed for 1,881 yards this year topping all other quarterbacks and ranking second amongst all players, according to the Chicago Tribune. He is also averaging 350.5 total yards of offense a game.

Lynch is a graduate of St. Christina School in Mount Greennwood and Mount Carmel High School.

The Huskies are set to take on Utah State in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 26. The Heisman Trophy winner will be announced in New York City on Saturday.

Also named as finalists were Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M, Tre Mason of Auburn, A.J. McCarron of Alabama, Andre Williams of Boston College and Jameis Winston of Florida State.
