Marist Loses Flynn Nagel to Lemont High

The highly recruited junior started classes Thursday.

The Marist Red Hawks have lost a top player. Flynn Nagel officially joined the Lemont High student body Thursday, alma mater of his older brothers Aaron, Brett and Connor.

Last year, the 5-foot-11 junior scored 18 touchdowns and racked up 1,488 yards for Marist, where he earned second team All-State recognition.

Why did he leave the Red Hawks and Marist, where he's made a big name for himself? Nagel has scholarship offers from the University of Illinois, Northern Illinois, Indiana University, Miami of Ohio and Western Michigan.

"Coach (Pat) Dunne and I had a really good relationship and I was tight with all the guys on the team. I love everything about Marist and Coach Dunne and what he did for me," Nagel told the Tribune. "It was first of all a financial decision for me and my family."

He says he's looking forward to playing for Lemont, where he's known many of his teammates since his days playing youth football for the Lemont Hornets.

“Whatever offense we’re going to run, I can fit in,” Nagel told sports journalist Pat Disabato, reporting for Sun-Times Media. “I can play running back if they want to run the ball, receiver if they want to throw the ball and quarterback if they want to run the Wildcat.”
