Chicago's Aja Evans Wins Bronze in Women's Bobsled

Two United States women's bobsled pairings will go home with medals from the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Team USA's Elana Meyers and Lauryn Williams grabbed silver with a time of 3:50.71—just .10 seconds from Canada's Kaillie Humphries and Heather Moyse's gold-winning time. 

The bronze went to Chicago's Aja Evans and Jamie Greubel, with a finishing time of 3:51.61. It's the first time two U.S. sleds have medaled in women's bobsledding, NBC reports. 

Evans and Greubel headed into Wednesday's runs in third; Meyers and Williams in first.

Evans started as a track star at the University of Illinois, where competed in the shot put and sprint events. She first tried bobsleigh in October 2012 in Lake Placid, New York. She blasted onto the scene in her rookie season by scoring 794 out of a possible 800 points on the combine test, winning the 2012 U.S. National Push Championship title, and breaking the start record with driver Jamie Greubel in 2012-2013 team selection races.

Evans comes from a family of athletes. Brother Fred plays defensive tackle for the Minnesota Vikings, and her uncle is Gary Matthews, former hitting coach for the Chicago Cubs.
