Original Rainbow Cone Named One of America's Best Ice Cream Shops

'Thrillist' revealed its top 21 ice cream shops in America, and Rainbow Cone is among them. Get ready to wait in line, folks.

Lifestyle website Thrillist compiled a list of its most highly recommended ice cream shops in America and Beverly's own Original Rainbow Cone, 9233 S. Western Ave., made the cut.

Among its charms, Thrillist lauded the Cone for "solving the age-old dilemma of chocolate or vanilla by filling cones with a leaning tower of chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (NY vanilla with cherries and walnuts), pistachio, and orange sherbet."

Original Rainbow Cone was founded in 1926 by Joseph and Katherine Sapp. It was purchased in the '80s by their granddaughter Lynn, who has expanded Rainbow’s business to participating in summer events like the Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza and local neighborhood festivals.

The original location is open seven days a week from noon to 9 p.m.
