Saint Xavier University Hires New Dean of Graham School of Management

Saint Xavier University (SXU) is pleased to announce that Asghar Sabbaghi, Ph.D., has been selected to serve as dean of the Graham School of Management as of July 1, 2014.

Dr. Sabbaghi, who was selected from a talented and distinguished pool of candidates, most recently served as associate dean in the Judd Leighton School of Business & Economics, area chair for Decision Sciences and Management Information Systems, and professor of Decision Sciences at Indiana University South Bend. He also served as the school's interim dean for one year. His responsibilities as associate dean focused on academic and administrative leadership of the school's graduate and undergraduate program, program development and assessment, faculty recruitment and retention, student recruitment and retention, and forging partnerships with the community. 

In addition to a demonstrated record as an effective academic administrator, Dr. Sabbaghi is also an accomplished and prolific scholar.  His areas of expertise include study of the economics of water, green information technology and sustainability, and supply chain intelligence.  He is the co-author of a book entitled Economics of Water Resources: From Regulation to Privatization, that was recently translated into Chinese, as well as the author or co-author of numerous scholarly articles published in journals such asJournal of Theoretical and Applied Electronic Commerce, International Business and Economics Research Journal, Issues in Information Systems, International Business and Economics Research Journal, and theInternational Journal of Modeling and Simulation. 

Prior to joining IU South Bend, Sabbaghi held an appointment as an assistant professor in the Karaj School of Mathematics and Economic Management at Tehran University for five years. He also worked as a research analyst at Future Group, Inc. During his over 30 year tenure at IU South Bend, he advanced through the academic ranks, earned honors for teaching and scholarship, and left his mark in academic administration and community outreach. Dr. Sabbaghi is a staunch supporter of partnerships that advance successful outcomes for students and of mission-oriented strategic planning.

Sabbaghi holds a Ph.D. in economics from Indiana University Bloomington. He also holds a Master's degree and a Bachelor of Science degree, both in economics and statistics, from Tehran University. Additionally, he holds post-doctoral certificates from the Management Development Program at Harvard University, the Advanced MIS Faculty Development Institute at the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington, and the MIS Faculty Development Institute at the University of Minnesota.
