New Marist Softball Coach Takes Over Reins from Mentor

Colleen Biebel, a 2007 graduate of Marist High School, is the second coach in the girls varsity softball program's history.

Starting with the 2015 season, Colleen Biebel will take over as head varsity softball coach at Marist High School. Biebel, a 2007 Marist graduate, will take the reins from Denise Bromberek, who is stepping down from the girls softball varsity program at the end of this season.

Biebel, only the second coach in the program’s 11-year history, will also teach English at Marist.

Biebel was a pitcher for Bromberek’s Marist teams from 2004-2007.  She was a four year Southtown-Star All-Area Selection and East Suburban Catholic All-Conference selection.  She was also a three year (2005-2007) Chicago Sun-Times All-Area Selection, as well as a two time ESCC Player of the Year.

Biebel continued her academic and softball career at Western Illinois University, where she was a four year starter in centerfield for the Leathernecks.  In her time in Macomb, she was a four-year Summit League All-Academic Team Selection, a four-year Summit League All-Conference outfielder, a 2009 Summit League All-Tournament Team Selection, and on the 2010 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All-District V First Team.  Biebel is also in the WIU Softball top 10 in career hits, steals and runs scored.  She graduated magna cum laude in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

Biebel’s familiarity with the Marist program extends beyond her playing days. She has been the varsity assistant coach since 2012, and was on the staff for the program’s first state championship.  Biebel has also coached in the Palos Rippit Club Softball Program, and is currently a coach for the Beverly Bandits.
