Mt. Greenwood Student Receives Prestigious Chick Evans Scholarship

Emily Maxwell, a senior at Marist High School, was named a 2014 Chick Evans scholarship recipient.


Emily Maxwell, of Mt. Greenwood, was one of five seniors at Marist High School to receive a prestigious Chick Evans scholarship -- a full, four-year housing and tuition scholarship.

The students, all caddies at local country clubs, were selected based on a strong caddy record, academic excellence, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character.

Maxwell has been a caddie for four years at Ridge Country Club. She plans on attending Northwestern University.

Marist seniors who also received scholarships, include Neal Lichner, of Tinley Park; Maggie Mullen, of Palos Heights; Randy Rodriguez, of Gage Park; and Nick Wilkinson, of Alsip.

The Evans Scholars Foundation was started in 1929 by famed golfer Chick Evans Jr. Evans asked the Western Golf Association to administer a fund that he had set up to send deserving caddies to college. Today, the Evans Scholar Foundation continue to meet scholars’ housing and tuition costs, which exceed $12 million annually.

The other Evans scholars are bound for Purdue, Indiana and Northern Illinois Universities, and University of Illinois at Champaign.
