After 24 Years, Brother Rice Basketball Coach Pat Richardson Retires

The Brother Rice coaching legend notched 37 championships during his tenure.

It's the end of an era for Crusader basketball. 

Brother Rice High School announced on Tuesday that longtime coach Pat Richardson will be retiring at the end of this school year after racking up over 400 wins during his tenure.

Richardson has been the head coach of the program for 24 years. During that time his teams have won nine Catholic League titles, eight Thanksgiving, five Christmas, eleven IHSA Regional championships, and four IHSA Sectional Championships as well as making one Elite Eight appearance in 2005, according to the school.

“It’s been an incredible honor and privilege to be the basketball coach at Brother Rice for the past 24 years," Richardson said on the school's website. "I can’t imagine a better place to coach basketball. The support I’ve received from the administration, faculty, parents, alumni, and Crusader Crazies has been incredible."

Richardson has led his teams to 12 different 20-plus win seasons and has seen 12 players earn Division One basketball scholarships and dozens more have played collegiate basketball at other levels.
