Details: While the exact date of construction for the Hopkinson House might be a bit foggy, it is certainly one of the oldest homes in the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood. The Italianate house sits on one acre of land with an additional couple of acres of land adjoining it. The home was the longtime residence of University of Chicago geographer Robert Platt and was often visited by traveling students from other countries and refugees of foreign conflicts. The home's history is somewhat in dispute with some claim's made to it having been a stop on the underground railroad, a fact local historians find doubtful. However, there could have been a previous smaller home on the grounds used as a railroad stop.

The house itself features a unique design for the area with dramatic interior details like stained glass windows, intricate woodwork and high ceilings. Some of the kitchen and bathroom finishes may need some updating, but it's a one of a kind property.
