Recycle Your Real Christmas Tree at Mt. Greenwood Park

The city is taking your Christmas trees and will use them as mulch.

Christmas is swiftly retreating in the rear view mirror and it's time to pack up the last few remnants of the holiday.

The Department of Streets and Sanitation and the Chicago Park District are working together to offer tree recycling to Chicagoans. Until Jan. 18 you can drop off your tree to be recycled.

If you remove all of your decorations you can drop off your tree at one of 23 locations across the city. The nearest site in these parts is at Mt. Greenwood Park. You can find other locations here.

The resulting mulch will be available free of cost at the same sites starting Jan. 11.

More than 14,300 were recycled last year as part of the program.
