O'Shea: Judge Orders Demolition of Dilapidated House

The property has long been left vacant and has been cleared for demolition.

In an email blast to residents Tuesday morning, Ald. Matt O'Shea announced that a judge issued an order to demolish a long vacant "eyesore" property in the ward.

The home in question is located at 10921 S. Hermosa Ave. and O'Shea says that it posed numerous concerns for area residents.

"This order is the result of over two years of fruitless efforts to work with the property owner to address the very dangerous conditions at this location," O'Shea wrote. "Vacant homes not only detract from property values throughout the area, but they are also a magnet for criminal activity. The demolition of this home will improve the quality of life on the block, as well as contribute to public safety in the area."

The order was issued by Judge James McGing.
