19th Ward Residents Report 110 Potholes in Last 11 Days

Find out how to add a pothole to the big list.

It's that time of the year.

As the snow started to melt and the ice began to thaw after last week's arctic blast residents of the 19th Ward began to notice those pesky potholes that always seem to make an appearance in mid-winter.

The now warming weather and previous freezing temperatures have resulted in a sharp uptick in the number of potholes in the 19th Ward being reported to 311 in recent days.

According to city data, 110 potholes have been reported to the city and placed on their list to fill. Using the city's open source data tool you can trace the pothole requests and find out when they were filled.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Office announced on Friday that crews will work seven days a week filling potholes and that they have started the process a week earlier than last year.

“All city departments are working to ensure our roadways are safe, and this includes repairing the many potholes that formed as a result of the 23 inches of snow we’ve had this year and the bitter cold temperatures earlier this week,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel in a statement. “City workers have done a tremendous job plowing and salting streets and making pothole repairs in all neighborhoods to keep Chicago moving.”

In the first handful of days of 2014, 15,000 potholes have been filled across the city, according to the Chicago Department of Transportation. In 2013 a total of 625,000 potholes were filled.

To add a pothole to the filling list call 311 with the exact location. You can also use one of the city's mobile apps like SeeClickFix or Chicago Works to report a pothole.
