Thieves Targeting AT&T Boxes in Chicago For Batteries
Have you seen suspicious people hanging around AT&T boxes lately? A dozen have been hit this month.
The Chicago Police Department is warning residents about a string of thefts that have occurred around the city this month.
Police are saying that thieves are targeting batteries housed in AT&T Video-Ready Access Devices. The boxes are often located on street corners, in alleys and on utility poles. The unknown thieves have hit at least 12 boxes during the month of October.
They break into the boxes and remove the batteries inside, according to a news release.
Police are urging residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity near these boxes and to report it immediately.
Most helpful is information that can identify the clothing or physical characteristics of the individuals as well as any details about the car they are driving.
Police warn residents to never pursue suspects themselves, but immediately call 911.
