Report: 22nd District Down 11 Beat Officers in 2012
A report by the Chicago Sun-Times examines shifting beat officer numbers across the city. The number of officers patrolling Beverly, Mt. Greenwood and Morgan Park dropped this year.
There are fewer officers patrolling the streets in Beverly, Mt. Greenwood and Morgan Park, according to a recent look at Chicago Police Department staffing numbers.
A Chicago Sun-Times analysis found that since Mayor Rahm Emanuel took office, there are fewer beat officers across the city. In the 22nd District there were 11 fewer beat officers in 2012 than there were in 2011, according to the report.
The analysis discovered that since May 2011 nine districts have seen an increase in beat officers, while across Chicago the total number has fallen by 108, a direct contradiction to Emanuel's inauguration promise to increase the beat officer ranks.

Reporters Dan Mihalopoulos and Frank Main found that the number of beat officers in the city did rise in the fall of 2011, but began to decline soon after.
The sharpest decline was seen in the near South Side 2nd District where 79 fewer beat officers patrol the streets.
