Police Officer From Mt. Greenwood Saved Woman Being Stabbed By Ex-Boyfriend

A police officer from Mt. Greenwood was honored for his extreme act of heroism while on the job.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15 the Chicago City Council passed a resolution honoring two Chicago Police officers for a special act of heroism.

The resolution describes the outsanding police work performed by Officer Timothy McCollom, of Mt. Greenwood, and Officer Robert Przybylowski.

On Aug. 26 while working in the 9th District the two men responded to a call from a woman on the 5200 block of S. Mozart about an ex-boyfriend who was violating an order of protection.

Earlier that day the woman was out shopping with her children and a male friend when the ex-boyfriend approached their car and tried to open one of the doors, they were able to drive away but the children spotted a knife in the man's possession.

While the officers were outside the woman's home, she walked to the back door of the house to retrieve a document to show them. That is when the ex-boyfriend suddenly appeared and began to attack the woman with a butcher knife, according to the resolution.

The officers heard her screams and ran to the gangway to find the man stabbing her repeatedly. The man then brandished his knife toward the officers. McCollom drew his weapon and fatally shot the man.

The woman was treated for her wounds and survived the attack. The resolution says the two men, "most certainly saved the woman's life."
