Pedestrian Struck By Rock Island Metra Train in Beverly - UPDATED

All Blue Island Branch trains on the Rock Island Metra line are stopped due to train vs. pedestrian incident in Beverly.

6:38 p.m. -- A critically injured pedestrian struck by a Metra train in Beverly Thursday afternoon was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

The Chicago Tribune said the accident happened around 4:10 p.m. near the intersection of West 90th Street and South Hermitage Avenue. Police at the scene told the paper that the pedestrian may have been running to cross the tracks.

Fire crews lifted the the train off the pedestrian using jacks, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

The pedestrian was hit by Train 607, an outgoing train on Metra's Rock Island District's Blue Island branch.

Trains were operating with delays on the Beverly Sub-District as of 5:42 p.m. Thursday.

5:42 p.m. -- From Metra: "Trains operating on the Beverly Sub-District are now operating with minimum delays between 10 and 15 minutes.  The delays is due to an earlier pedestrian incident involving train #607 near 90th street."   

5:30 p.m. - From Metra: "Train #303, scheduled to depart Chicago at 5:30 p.m. and arrive Blue Island-Vermont St. at 5:59 p.m., will not operate this evening due to an earlier pedestrian incident. Train #417, scheduled to depart Chicago at 5:25 p.m. and arrive Joliet at 6:32 p.m., will accommodate passengers from train #303. Train #417, will make additional stops at 95th/Longwood, 103rd/Washington Heights, and Blue Island-Vermont St. this evening."

5:24 p.m. - Metra says trains are on the move through the Beverly Sub-District 

"Local police are allowing train #607 and other trains waiting to proceed through the Beverly Sub-District near 90th street to begin moving.  Trains will be operating approximately 20 to 60 minutes late due to operating at a reduce speed through the incident area. "

Original story - A pedestrian was struck by a Rock Island Metra line train #607 near 90th and Hermitage in the Beverly neighborhood, Metra announced.

All Blue Island Branch trains on the Rock Island Metra line are stopped. ABC-7 reported that the person was taken to Christ Hospital in critical condition. It is not know why the person was on the train tracks.

The latest service alert from Metra stated that train #620, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 5:04 p.m., will be expressing from Blue Island-Vermont St. to 103rd St./Washington Heights, Gresham, 35th, and LaSalle.
