The father of a 17-year-old Beverly teen who was killed on an Indiana beach told the Sun-Times that his son’s accused killer has reached a plea deal with prosecutors.
James Malacek, of Chicago’s North Side Lake View neighborhood, was 19 when he was accused of fatally punching Kevin Kennelly, Jr., 17, during a fight in July 2011.
The dead teen’s father, Chicago Fire Lt. Kevin Kennelly, Sr., said that Malacek has agreed to plea to involuntary manslaughter and will serve some jail time, the Sun-Times reported.
LaPorte, Ind., prosecutors said that no deal has been submitted, but more information is forthcoming.
Kennelly was a student at Mt. Carmel High School. His family has filed a civil suit against Malacek, now 21.
