Cold Exposure Leads to Blue Island Man's Death

An 80-year-old Blue Island man found on the back steps of his home died of exposure to the cold. 

The Chicago Tribune reports that Elias Contreras, of the 2200 block of Olive Street, died of hypothermia and cold exposure. 

Contreras was found around 9 p.m. on Monday evening. 

His is the first exposure death reported in Cook County during this week's record-breaking cold streak. 

Contreras was visited by relatives just a couple of hours before his death and was not dressed for the weather when he was found.
