Chicago Police Department Sends Investigators to Boston

A total of six officers have been sent to aid in the continuing investigation of Monday's Boston Marathon bombing.

The Chicago Police Department announced on Friday that five detectives and one sergeant have been sent to Boston to aide in the ongoing investigation of the Boston Marathon bombings. 

The request was made be Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis after the department and Mayor Rahm Emanuel offered assistance. 

"What happened in Boston this week has affected all of us and we must stand together in the face of these cowardly acts," said Mayor Emanuel in a news release. "Chicago stands in solidarity with Boston and we are ready to help in any way we can."

The officers were expected to arrive in Boston sometime Friday to assist with the ongoing efforts. 

“I spoke with Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis earlier this morning and reiterated our offer of assistance and resources as Boston deals with unique challenges to solve a despicable crime,” said Superintendent McCarthy, in a news release.
