T.A.L.K. Poetry Slam!!!

South Suburban not-for-profit Theatre & Arts Leadership Kouncil (TALK), empowers teens to become difference makers in their community through the arts and are currently in the process of organizing TALK’s first Poetry Slam and Teen Music Festival. Both events are drenched in teen involvement. From teen performers, to teen planners, the TALK Poetry Slam and Music Festival will be teen planned and produced. Teen involvement embodies TALK’s approach to showcase teen work and provides teens a mean to exercise leadership skills. It is TALK’s goal that these events will focus on attracting teens from all over the south suburbs, so they too can advocate for social justice through their art work.

TALK is very pleased to put on both events this summer, 2014. The Poetry Slam will be in June and the Teen Music Fest will be in July or August.About The Poetry Slam: “Who We Are”

Over the past few months teens from TALK’s Literary Arts Kommittee have been meeting to discuss and produce “Who We Are”, a poetry slam focusing on “teen issues.” While it is still in its early production phase, “Who We Are” is planned to be an event that focuses on letting teens showcase their thoughts and talents, as well as compete for prizes donated by local businesses. To follow through with TALK’s expansion goal, we will be holding the poetry slam in the Beverly area, sometime in June. Beverly is a city neighborhood south of Chicago, about thirty minutes from the Homewood-Flossmoor area. TALK hopes “Who We Are” will give teens a means to express themselves through literary arts, as well as to help the teens gain networking and leadership skills.
