Funeral Arrangements Set For McAuley Student Bridget Cullen, 17

The Mother McAuley student will be waked on Friday, Jan. 4.

Bridget Anne Cullen, 17, died suddenly on New Year's Day.

Cullen was a senior at Mother McAuley High School.

She is survived by her parents Michael and Anne, nee Cronin; siblings Kaitlyn and Michael; grandparents George and Marge Cullen and the late Michael and Margaret Cronin.

Mother McAuley released a statement on her death:

The Mother McAuley School Community mourns the sudden and unexpected death of Bridget Cullen '13, a beloved member of the McAuley family. As a result, Alumnae Basketball Night and Grammar School Basketball Night, scheduled for Friday, January 4th at McAuley have been canceled. Please keep Bridget and the Cullen family in your prayers.

Visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 4 from  3-8 p.m. at St. Cajetan Church, 2445 W. 112th St. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m at St. Cajetan on Saturday, Jan. 5 with interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Tributes and memories have begun to flood in online as those who knew her recall a "friendly and caring" girl.

The Cullen family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Mother McAuley Scholarship Fund.

Grief counseling will be made available to Mother McAuley students.

Her family deserves privacy and from my perspetive publishing an exact cause of death isn't needed. My purpose is to inform and offer a place for people to share their thoughts, anything more seems exploitive.

could maybe the Patch could of spotted the poorly placed singles ad NOT in the middle of a young girls obit notice? Just saying...
Ben Feldheim (Editor) January 4, 2013 at 10:33 pm
Some of our ads generate on a rotation automatically. That wasn't intentional, and editors don't have control over that aspect. Apologies if anyone was offended.

Dan I agree 100%, I feel the same.
I too have been through the death of a child, and the pain is indescribable. Please know that time family and friends will help you heal outwardly and the Lord will help you try to heal inwardly. Thinking and praying for you and your family.

Thanks for the comments, Ordinary. I didn't mean to imply you were being disrespectful. A number of people were asking both here and on Facebook, so my comment was meant to be more general. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.

Patch wishes the Cullen family the best. Our intention on publishing the story of Bridget's passing was to inform readers of her arrangements. The board is being shut down and certain well-intentioned comments have been deleted out of respect for the family.

God Bless the family! Our prayers go out to them.
