Honor Kevin Kennelly, Jr. -- Donate to His Memorial Scholarship

Patch has partnered with GoFundMe to promote local fundraising efforts.

Beverly resident Kevin Kennelly, Jr. died at the age of 17 on Fourth of July 2011 after being punched in the head at an Indiana beach.

His attacker was sentenced to 145 days in jail and just under four years of electronic monitoring this past spring.

Kennelly was a student at Mount Carmel High School and his family created a scholarship fund at the school to honor his memory. The fund is raising money through GoFundMe.

From the campaign:

As you all know, we lost Kevin F. Kennelly Jr. in 2011 and his family and friends have established a Scholarship Fund in Kevin's name. The fund will award annual scholarships to Mt. Carmel High School to eighth grade students who embrace the ideals of family, work, tradition, and community as Kevin did throughout his young life. While two scholarships were awarded in 2012, thanks to the support of both community residents and businesses, twenty scholarships totaling $33,000 were recently awarded to local eighth grade students entering Mt. Carmel this fall.
