Of the 50 states, Illinois is
projected to have the 10th highest number of new cases of melanoma –
the deadliest form of skin cancer – with an estimated 2,440 new cases expected
in 2014. Men are particularly at risk, as men over 50 are at a greater risk of
developing melanoma than the general public; yet, only 18% nationwide visit a
doctor for an annual skin cancer screening, according to a recent American
Academy of Dermatology survey.

This year, the Bears
will be joining forces with the American Academy of Dermatology’s SPOT
me™
campaign to raise
awareness of skin cancer prevention and detection and encourage people to make
skin health a priority by getting regular skin cancer screenings from a
board-certified dermatologist.
