Mount Greenwood Fourth Most Irish Neighborhood in the Country

This might explain why St. Patrick's Day is such a big deal in these parts.

It's probably no surprise to most of us, but recent census data confirms what we all knew.

Mount Greenwood is one of the nation's most Irish areas, the Huffington Post reports. A full 40.7 percent of all residents claim Irish as their primary ancestry.

Neighborhoods from Boston make up half of the list, and Mount Greenwood is the only Chicago neighborhood to make an appearance. According to census numbers 7.2 percent of the American population cites Irish as their main ancestry. The number of Americans who claim Irish ancestry is more than five times the entire population of Ireland, the report states.
