Flash Flood Warning in Effect Until 2:30 a.m.

Periods of thunderstorms could bring up to 2 inches per hour.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for southern Cook County, according to its website.

The watch, which expires at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday now includes most of central and northern Illinois.

"Periods of showers and thunderstorms are likely tonight into Wednesday morning," the NWS said. "Due to the very moist airmass in place some of the thunderstorms could produce torrential rainfall with rates of over two inches per hour."
