Records (as of 12/4/13): Brother Rice (2-2 overall), Mt. Carmel (4-1 overall).

Fast Facts: Mt. Carmel had a fast start to the season, going 4-1 at the Lane Tech Tournament last week. Nichols led the way for the Caravan. New Brother Rice coach Rick Harrigan said that Nichols will be tough for the Crusaders, or anybody else, to stop due to his ability to create his own shot. Byrd and Grant also chipped in to help Mt. Carmel finish in a three-way tie for first place in the tournament, along with Evanston and Zion-Benton. Brother Rice is ushering in a new era. Pat Richardson is out after 25 years at the helm. In his stead is one of his former players, Harrigan, a 2002 Brother Rice graduate. The Crusaders went 2-2 at the Riverside-Brookfield Tournament last week, but they left with a bad feeling in their mouths. They gave up a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to R-B Friday, losing 69-66. The Crusaders are guard-heavy, with Niego and Rubio expected to be the team’s leading scorers all season. Each scored 27 points in a 65-58 win over Kenwood. Finn is an athletic wing. Mueller and Scanlon figure to play down low and give the team some toughness coming off of a successful football campaign. Both teams are in the Chicago Catholic League, though the game is a crossover. Brother Rice is in the South division, while Mt. Carmel is in the North division. The Chicago Sun-Times predicted that each would finish fifth in their respective divisions in the preseason.
