Original Rainbow Cone Re-opens for Summer Season

Winter? What winter. Spurn what's left of this awful season, with your first taste of a Beverly favorite.

Those hankering for a Beverly favorite need not wait any longer.

The Original Rainbow Cone, 9233 S. Western Ave., re-opens Friday at noon for its summer season, with a grand opening celebration planned for Saturday, March 8. The first 100 customers through the line Saturday will receive a special 88th anniversary shirt.

Original Rainbow Cone was founded in 1926 by Joseph and Katherine Sapp. It was purchased in the '80s by their granddaughter Lynn, who has expanded Rainbow’s business to participating in summer events like the Taste of Chicago, Lollapalooza and local neighborhood festivals.

One of the South Side's most cherished sweet treats, it’s an ice cream cone piled high with five flavors: chocolate, strawberry, Palmer house, pistachio and orange sherbet.
