Optimo Hats to Purchase Old Beverly Firehouse

A new owner for the long-vacant property is on the near horizon as Optimo Hats looks to expand their footprint in Beverly.

On Tuesday plans to restore and repurpose the old Beverly Firehouse moved a step closer to completion as the city's Community Development Commission approved of the plans for Optimo Hats to take over the space.

The fire station, 1700 W. 95th St., has been vacant for years after a newer station was built further down 95th Street. The historic two-story building features some decorative touches like limestone detailing, and a copper detailed canopy over a side entrance.

Optimo Hats currently operates a shop at 10125 S. Western Ave. and another retail space in the Loop. The business creates high-end and custom classic men's hats. Optimo would keep a retail presence at their current location and would move production to the new facility.

The location would seem to fit in well with the company's classic and retro vibe. The property transfer still has to be approved by the full city council, which is likely to happen in October.

In an email blast to constituents, Ald. Matt O'Shea remarked on the development.

"This is a very exciting development, and I am grateful to Optimo Hats for there continued investment in our community," he wrote.
