Janson's to Reopen Under New Owner

The drive-in's new owner hopes to have it up and running by summer.

The doors of Beverly landmark of more than 50 years will soon reopen. The new owner of Janson's Drive-in is in the final stages of renovation on the restaurant, and hopes to open by summer.

The spot at 99th Street and Western Avenue is now owned by Haiwei Yuan, of Griffith, Ind.. Yuan has been working on the property since April 2012, when it was purchased by real estate developer Mike Ford, and Gus and Wendy Pettas, reports The Beverly Review.

Janson's served its first hot dog back in 1960. The drive-in harkens back to another time with its retro architecture and menu teeming with classic Americana offerings. The Janson family sold the establishment back in 1996. The new owners then sold it again in April 2012, and they had initially hoped to reopen by November of that year due to necessary renovations.

Most of the work is completed now, Yuan told The Review. Equipment will be delivered this week, and inspections are already taking place.

Yuan hopes to begin hiring soon. Find an application online.

Janson's won't be open in time for the South Side Irish Parade, but Yuan plans to erect a tent and hand out hats or other novelty items.
