Halloween Guide: Where to Find the Best Costumes

Check out our list of the best local shops to find the perfect Halloween costume.

Our first installment scares up some great spots to find costumes for every member of your family.

Riley's Trick Shop

This Southland institution has been selling magic tricks and a wide selection of costumes since 1937. Fitting in with this year's election, a wide selection of political masks are available.

The shop is also overflowing with accessories. You can find everything from a Michael Jackson glove to the aptly named "Moon Shorts."

Walgreens

Walgreens stores are carrying well-stocked Halloween aisles with all sorts of costume ideas, including some awesome Barack Obama and Mitt Romeny masks. Costumes come in adult through kids' sizes and include a wide selection of props and animated spooky (and not so spooky) figures. The Walgreens store associates love it when you set them all off at once.

Halloween Express

If you can't find a costume to wear at Halloween Express than you don't have that Halloween spirit. Halloween Express, located in the former Men's Wearhouse space at 6010 W. 95th St. carries all the trending costumes -- Monster High, Angry Birds, Yo Gabba Gabba, Obama, Mitt -- as well as the time-honored super hero, Disney princess and Dracula favorites. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Halloween World Costumes

6310 W. 95th St. (Ridgeland Avenue and 95th Street), Oak Lawn, 1-888-263-2702

What a store! We found hundreds of great masks for all budgets. The staff was very friendly and showed us the smoke machine, plus an impressive collection of body parts and make-up. Costumes come in all styles, from cute to ghastly, and baby to adult plus sizes. Get a group of friends and go as KISS, or, dress your baby as the Incredible Hulk. You can also find decorations for your yard or Halloween soiree that will surely scare the snot of the trick or treaters and party guests.

Beverly Costumes

11628 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, 773-779-0068

This year-round shop has been open for business since 1967. The shop stocks costumes for both rental and purchase. If you are looking for a top of the line outfit for a party, but aren't willing to pony up to buy that gorilla suit this might be the perfect place to check out. A variety of costumes from the current trends and political masks to classics like a full yellow chicken suit this store has got you covered. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Lover's Lane

To put some spice in your Halloween, Lover's Lane offers a veritable treasure chest of adult costume attire, from animals and fairies and cops, to French maids and beer wenches. Or pick out couples-themed costumes for you and your honey, like his-and-her pirates or Canadian mounties, from regular to plus sizes. Lover's Lane is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday; and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Party City

Party City carries thousands of Halloween costumes for the whole family--even the dog. Many of the costumes start at $9.99. You'll find all the costumes your kids are clamouring for, as well as adult costumes and sexy costumes. Plus-sizes available. Buy a classic favorite or create your own look. Party City has lots of Halloween party favors, decorations and supplies for your party. Through Oct. 18 hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday; and 10 .m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. From Oct. 19-25, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Oct. 27-28, 8 a.m. to midnight; Oct. 28, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Oct. 29-30, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and Oct. 31, 7 a.m. to 8:30p.m.
