BAC Releases October Film Offerings

“Fred Won’t Move Out” (2012) RT: 74 min. Wed., Oct. 3, 7:30 p.m. $7.50 ($5/50/BAC members). Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. (111th Street south on Western), Chicago.  Elliott Gould stars as one in a pair of aging parents whose children struggle to decide whether mom and dad should stay in the house where they have lived for 50 years. Filmed with both humor and heartbreak. Best of the Fest, Edinburgh International Film Festival.

“Take This Waltz” (2012) R. RT: 1:56. Wed., Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m. $7.50 ($5/50/BAC members). Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. (111th Street south on Western), Chicago. This Canadian romance centers around Margot (Michelle Williams) as she struggles with her marriage after meeting Daniel (Seth Rogen), a charming and inviting neighbor. Also starring Sarah Silverman and Luke Kirby.

“The Queen of Versailles” (2012) PG. RT: 1:40. Wed., Oct. 17, 7:30 p.m. $7.50 ($5/50/BAC members). Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. (111th Street south on Western), Chicago. An interesting look into the psyche of America’s most upper class, this film follows a family in their attempt to build the most expensive single family home in the United States. The declining economy forces them to face the fact that they won’t be able to accomplish this lofty dream. U.S. Directing Award, 2012 Sundance Film Festival.

“Unforgivable” (2012) Unrated. RT: 1:51. Wed., Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. $7.50 ($5/50/BAC members). Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. (111th Street south on Western), Chicago. A crime novelist moves to Venice to write his newest book, and becomes caught up in a web of lies and mysterious disappearances in this French crime drama directed by Andre Techine (“The Girl on the Train,” “Strayed.”)

Special Halloween Screening

"Phantom of the Opera" (1925, silent, 93 min.) with live organ accompaniment, Wed., Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. $7.50 ($5/50/BAC members). Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St. (111th Street south on Western), Chicago.  A genuine horror genre classic, the 1925 silent film adaptation of "Phantom of the Opera" starred Lon Chaney as the Phantom who causes murder and mayhem throughout Paris as he tries to propel the opera career of the woman he loves.  "Phantom of the Opera" inspired Universal Studios to create a long run of classic horror/monster movies including “Dracula,” “Frankenstein,” and “The Mummy.” In its 1925 theater run, this silent film was screened in theaters with an organist playing live alongside the picture. This special Beverly Art Center presentation will give audiences the chance to experience that 1925-style experience.
