Marist Community to Honor Late Baseball Coach with Benefit

Money raised at the benefit will fund a scholarship in the name of deceased baseball coach Marty Roppolo. The scholarship is given to a Marist baseball player in financial need, with a passion for the game and a commitment to leading.

A benefit in honor of the late Marty Roppolo will be heldSaturday, February 22, from 4 to 9 p.m. at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park, Ill.  Roppolo was a long-time assistant baseball coach at Curie High School and Marist High School. He passed away in February 2013.

To honor Marty and his lifelong commitment to others, friends and family have started The Marty Roppolo Scholarship Fund, which will give a monetary award to a Marist High School baseball player who demonstrates financial need, a passion for the game of baseball, and the ability to lead by example.

"Roppolo was a loyal, hardworking, and caring man who touched the lives of many young people,"  according to school officials. "Marty loved the game of baseball. He was a leader who would do anything to help his team reach its goals."
