It's almost time to break open the bags of candy and to don your best witch's hat.
Halloween is on the horizon and local kids are rearing to go. That means everyone should take a minute to brush up on your trick-or-treating hours. We pulled together the hours for nearby towns so you can see what your neighbors are up to as well.
Enter Patch's Halloween costume contest and you might walk away with a bundle of cash.
Trick-or-treating in Evergreen Park begins at 4 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m for children accompanied by parents, 6 p.m. for those on their own.
After previously setting a cut off of 7 p.m., this year Oak Lawn has decided to let their neighborhood ghouls and goblins roam the streets from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children under 10 need to be accompanied by a parent after 7 p.m. A grassroots effort led by a local Halloween enthusiast got the hours extended.
Chicago does not have a formal set of Halloween hours. Residents of Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park can request signs from the 19th Ward Office to display on their homes asking the costumed masses to wrap it up by 7 p.m.
Oak Lawn resident Phil Barry’s Halloween sign lets the neighborhood know exactly where residents stand on handing out candy. If you don’t care to participate or run out, just flip the sign over to the side that says “no candy.” Barry said he created the sign so that parents didn’t waste their time taking their kids to houses where nobody answered the door. Download the sign and print on your computer printer.

We here at Patch are wondering what you think of your neighborhood's hours. Should there be more stringent restrictions? Do you opt to turn off the porch light and keep the candy bowl for yourself?

7:05 and they are still coming around. Cutting them off at 7:30 as I need to get things done.
