The clear blue sky was filled floating pink balloons Monday morning.
Residents of Smith Village, 2320 W. 113th Place, released dozens of pink balloons to ay tribute to all those who have battled the disease. Angels at Home Healthcare organized the event.
"It's something that we all have been touched by," said Tami Shemanske, director of the home health care organization.
Shemanske is a five-year survivor of breast cancer and the ceremony holds special meaning for her.
"Our goal is to make [breast cancer] a think of the past," she said before the balloons were released.
