Community Group to Raise Funds For Domestic Violence Victims With Work Out Day

The Morgan Park Junior Woman's Club has a unique approach to raising funds to fight domestic violence while partnering with local fitness programs.

On Saturday March 23, 2013, the Morgan Park Junior Woman's Club with the help of local fitness professionals will sponsor the Second Annual Work Out to Wipe Out Domestic Violence© Day. The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about the serious issue of domestic violence, and to raise funds for our local advocacy agency, A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park (A.N.D.).

Event sponsors will invite the public to participate in various Benefit Day activities provided by fitness businesses and clubs throughout the community.  Donations from participants will be collected at these activities, and the proceeds will go directly to A.N.D.

The Morgan Park Junior Woman’s Club is asking for participation from fitness businesses and clubs (and their clients) including the martial arts, pilates, personal trainers, dance and yoga studios, physical therapists, tennis, biking, walking, running and swimming clubs all around the community. These Partners will provide or organize an activity on Benefit Day, March 23, 2013, and will promote the Benefit Day among their clients and patrons.

If you own or manage a fitness studio or other physical activity-based club or business and would like to participate, please inquire by e-mail (morganparkjuniors@yahoo.com), or call Jean Catania at (773) 239-2633.  If you are a patron of such a venue, please urge them to join us as a Benefit Day Partner.

Partners of the inaugural Work Out to Wipe Out Domestic Violence© Benefit Day in 2012 included Beverly Ride-On, Beverly Yoga Studio, Core Fitness and Physical Therapy, Cross Fit Beverly, Curves of Beverly, FitCode Boot Camps, Klees Golf Shop, Natural Instincts Physical Therapy and Wellness Center, Tsai’s Kung Fu, Running Excels, the Shannon Center at St. Xavier University, and Yoga with Donna Wilkinson.

Thanks to the coordinating efforts of our 2012 Partners and the generosity of their patrons, A.N.D. was the beneficiary of over 150 individual donations.  Please help us to continue and strengthen this community support.  Plan to participate on March 23, 2013 – Save the Date!

A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park (www.anewdirectionbmp.org) is a non-profit 501-C-3 agency that provides counseling and advocacy services to domestic violence victims. It was conceived and is directed by community members with a strong commitment to its mission.  A.N.D. is funded entirely through donations and relies on community support to continue its mission.

Researchers have linked exposure to chronic abuse and violence with lower IQ scores, poorer language skills, decrements in visual-motor integration skills and problems with attention and memory. This www.CDV.org Statistic is really very alarming. The work done here on this grass roots campaign is a great start. Often times people that are active or physically fit have a lot of energy and can spread the cause. Thank you for your efforts. They are appreciated.
