Beverly Named One of Top Family Friendly Neighborhoods for Renters

Check out which other neighborhoods made the list.

As the 3rd biggest city in the country with a population of 2.7 million and 77 different neighborhoods, Chicago has something for everyone—including young families who want to rent an apartment. Young parents who aren’t ready to move to the suburbs can find areas that offer the excitement of city life along with great schools, low crime rates, and plenty of activities for kids. The trick is knowing where to look.

Fortunately, you don’t have to do all the searching yourself. Apartment Guys of Chicago have put together a detailed infographic looking at the top 5 Chicago neighborhoods for families to rent in. Those neighborhoods are:

Lincoln Square

Historically known as a German neighborhood, Lincoln Square has become incredibly diverse but not overdeveloped. Parents who are young at heart can enjoy some excellent music venues and quirky shops, while kids will benefit from plenty of parks and excellent schools. Most housing options include small apartment buildings, and the majority of families in this neighborhood rent.

Edgewater

Families that love spending time outside will appreciate the Edgewater neighborhood’s proximity to the well-known Lincoln Park. Edgewater, which was originally developed in the late 19th century as a summer retreat for Chicago’s elite, now boasts high-rise apartment complexes, condos, mid-rise homes, flats, and single- and multi-family homes. While parking can be tricky in this area, it has great public transportation and is known for its good schools.

Roscoe Village

This up-and-coming neighborhood has been referred to as a small town in the middle of a big city. Families have easy access to parks, commercial stretches, and the lakefront, making it easy to walk, bike, or take a bus instead of driving. With 4 theatres, 2 stadiums, and many schools, grocery stores, and medical facilities, Roscoe Village provides all the amenities a young family needs. The neighborhood is also known for its community involvement, with many residents supporting environmental efforts, local schools, and various neighborhood festivals and fundraisers.

Beverly

Located in southwest Chicago, Beverly offers an easy commute to work, school, and downtown shopping. The community really took off after the Great Chicago Fire, when many wealthy Chicago residents migrated here to escape the congestion in the center of the city. Today, it’s still home to some of the city’s most upwardly mobile and well-educated residents. The neighborhood has the 3rd highest median household income in Chicago and is slightly more expensive to rent in than the other neighborhoods profiled, but the reputable schools, gorgeous architecture, great public transportation, and wide array of community events make it worth the price for many families.

Hyde Park

Close to both the University of Chicago and Lake Michigan, Hyde Park is a vibrant neighborhood where you’d be hard-pressed to run out of things to do with your family. There are plenty of outdoor activities, as well as museums and theaters. This is the most inexpensive neighborhood for renters out of the 5 profiled, and new homes are being continually built to keep up with the demand of people who want to move to this diverse, sophisticated area.
