Comcast Highlights Historic Loyola Team

“1963 Loyola Ramblers” featured in Black History Month special.

A half-century after Loyola won the NCAA basketball championship, the legacy of its historic accomplishments on and off the court continue to resonate.

In 1963, the Ramblers became the first, and only, team in Illinois to win the title. That championship journey included the Game of Change – a key moment in the Civil Rights movement – as Loyola met Mississippi State in a contest that altered race relations in college basketball forever.

Hosted by CN100’s Aaron Kirn, “1963 Loyola Ramblers” features interviews with team members Jerry Harkness and Jack Egan, as well as author Michael Lenehan, who wrote “Ramblers: Loyola Chicago 1963 – The Team That Changed the Color of College Basketball.”
