122 Chicago Police Recruits Graduated Monday

The latest class of graduates brings the total number of new police officers this year to 634.

The Chicago Police Department welcomed 122 new members to their ranks at a graduation ceremony on Monday, Sept. 23 at Navy Pier. 

The total number of this year's Police Academy graduates now stands at 634, according to police. 

“Today we fulfill a promise to put 600 new officers on the beat, making communities safer and taking guns and drugs off our streets,” said Mayor Emanuel in a statement. “These officers are serving a critical role in protecting our neighborhoods, and we are thankful for their dedication and admirable commitment to public service.”

The most recent class includes includes 24 veterans, 10 of whom are still in the reserves, and a Bronze Star recipient. A total of 16 multi-generational officers also graduated on Monday.
