Anyone use the "Big Money Game" 'coupon' that was in the Sunday paper 2 weeks back? I saved mine and finally went over there Saturday night. As expected when I scanned the barcode it was worth the lowest value of $2 so I nabbed a few bags of top soil for a total bill of 15 cents. Had another one that a neighbor tossed, also good for $2 so gave it to another shopper. Asked 2 more neighbors, both …   more ›

Patch Readers Sound Off on Jewel Cart Policy

Do you think it should be mandatory for Jewel-Osco employees to follow you — and your cart — out to your vehicle? Let us know in the comments section.

Area residents voiced strong opinions this week on a new policy at Jewel-Osco, which requires its employees to follow customers — and their carts — out to their vehicles.  The service is mandatory, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you want the help or not, your bagger is expected to follow you out to your vehicle. The service has nothing to do with keeping track of carts, according to Coupons in the News.  "We understand that this is a very different service and it might take our customers some time to understand that we want this to be the norm," said a Jewel customer service representative in the article. Local Patch readers sounded off on the new policy on the Beverly-Mt. Greenwood, Oak Lawn and Evergreen Park Facebook …

Both of the young men I met who do this job are hardworking, helpful and pleasant. I saw very few shoppers being escorted or followed to their cars by employees. The customers who used…   more ›

Free Comic Book Day at Alternate Reality

The Alternate Reality in Mount Greenwood will be participating in Free Comic Book Day on Saturday. Patch pairs 5 free comics with 5 worth buying.

When the first Free Comic Book Day was held in 2002, the long-awaited Spider-Man live-action movie premiered that same weekend. At the time, it was still a bit of a novelty that Hollywood was making popular, big-budget superhero films (X-Men was released the previous year), and the North American event was a way for comics publishers and retailers to share that spotlight they helped ignite. Since then, Free Comic Book Day, which is Saturday, May 4, has become more of a happening in its own right and not something that relies on a big-screen component. The day continues to be an opportunity to introduce people unfamiliar with comics—or provide reintroductions when it comes to lapsed fans—by handing out special books from publishers gratis …
