Large Mob at Ford City Mall Results in Injuries and Arrests

A large mob of unruly teens resulted in two injuries and damage at Ford City Mall Saturday evening, according to reports.

Dozens of police units from Chicago and surrounding suburbs descended on Ford City Mall Saturday afternoon after a large group of unruly teens began to wreak havoc, according to reports.

Around 4:45 p.m. police were called to the mall, 7601 S. Cicero Ave., after a group of "a group of older youths" entered the mall and began to cause a disturbance, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The incident occurred shortly after a widely promoted appearance by the boy band Mindless Behavior. The Tribune reports that about 1,000 children and adults were at the mall for the appearance and that the chaos broke out around 45 minutes after the appearance ended.

A mall spokesperson denied that the event had anything to do with the ensuing incident and that a group of young people came to the mall specifically to "cause chaos", Sun-Times media reports.

There were only two minor injuries reported and the only damage found at Ford City was a damaged planter.

The group eventually spilled out into the parking lot where they began to jump on cars and descend on the Best Buy across Cicero Avenue, according to ABC-7.

About 20 people were in custody following the incident, ABC-7 reports.

Local online news site Southwest Chicago Post published an editorial soon after news of the incident spread raising questions about the mall's security and ability to handle large crowds.

Why does Chicago need to spend more money on "education?"

What the hell are these Chicago "students" learning? Let me answer. Nothing.

I do not know who is dumber, the destructive idiots or the Mall Manager, who sees "no connection" between allowing a group titled "Mindless Behavior" and the morons who showed up at Ford City Mall. Why would anyone want to anything to encourage the creation of a high concentration of social idiots.

Exactly what the hell are the taxpayers of Chicago getting for their education dollars - the creaton of socially ignorant morons?

I am "sorry" for connecting behavior with education. How dare I make such a moronic connection. I am truly a moron. After determining who was arrested at Ford City Mall I have determined that (1) all arrestees were Presidents of their student bodies and (2) all arrestees had a pocketbook edition of "Miss Manners" in their possession at the time of their arrest.

Paraphrasing: Someone has to say this - many of you are pulling the race card?

I agree wth you. But your comment certainly cannot be directed at me (I have no idea how Beverly-MountGreenwood Patch feedback gets distributed).

But, think about it. Liberal Democrats just love to pull ot the race card every four years. The real racists are the Blacks, Liberal Democrats, and the Liberal Press - all of whom love to "pull out the race card" and hurl it at anyone in there way. People such as Mitt Romney, who probably doesn't have a racist bone in his body, was showered with racist adjectives - to the delight of and with the assistance of the Liberal Press

Don't believe me? You do not have to. JUST ASK HILARY CLINTON.

Mindless behavior indeed!

This is yet another example of ghetto thug-mobs, most likely orchestrated through social media. This behavior has been glorified and encouraged, but you better not mention anything about the lack of city leadership and the black community's apologetic attitude on this unless you want to be painted as a racist. Heck, let's see how long this post even lasts here.

Where is Rahm? Chief "McJersey"? Father Pfleger? Jesse Jackson? This is the "leadership" that continues to stick their heads in the sand and issue feel-good press releases while the less trendy areas of Chicago continue their downward spiral.

It makes me sick.

I remember working there as a teen. It was a nice place. I could sit outside at 11PM waiting for my ride and the only scary things were the mall rats. Back then they were actual rodents, not people. I haven't even been on the property in about eight years. Probably over twenty years since I've seen the inside of the place. Such a shame...it was a nice place.

You are correct.

Growing up on the south side, Ford City was a great place to go to see a movie, go bowling, or a restaurant . That in addition to having a lot of great stores to shop in.

Now I wouldn't go ther on a bet.

What has changed ?? The people that go there.

As much as people like saying that everyone is the same, it's just not true. The culture that produces these thugs is not the same culture I grew up with.

I agree with all the above comments. Well said.
And exactly why I don't go there anymore. But it was scary to hear the trouble spilled out on to Cicero Ave because I do drive that stretch frequently and also Best Buy because I have shopped there.

I also worked at Ford City when I was in high school. I went to school, worked, and played sports. I did not have time to do this "mindless behavior".
Jesse Jackson is busy consoling his corrupt son and daughter-inlaw. Let's see if he makes it on TV commenting about this "mindless behavior"?

Why is this a shock to everyone. Ford City has been a haven for drug dealers, gang bangers, and thieves since the late 90's. The other stores in the area are not safe either. If the majority of the people that live in the surrounding communities had first hand knowledge of what was actually taking place in their towns, they would probably re-think about continuining to live there and raise their families there.

You can try to teach a student, but that does not mean they will learn. It starts in the home and how the child was raised. If you raise the child to be an animal, what will you get? An Animal.

Parents need to be heald accountable for the animal that they raise.
It use to be a decent mall years ago, the demographics have changed over the last 20 years or so.

Ah, the good ole days of Ford City...my Mom used to let us take the bus from the south burbs every Saturday to hang out. Movies, Orange Julius and lets not forget Peacock Alley!! Those were the days! As I got older, many great memories going to the midnight showings of some great Rock Films...at one time I think I saw "The Song Remains the Same" six weeks in a row! Flash forward....I hate to even drive down Cicero near the place if I don't have to.

I haven't been to Ford City since the 1989 because of the safety issues. I live right by Chicago Ridge mall and drive to the Quarry to see a movie. I shop in Lemont or Yorktown mall to shop because I see it starting all over again. It's a shame that we feel shopping in our neighborhood is unsafe for our children and our selves.!

Africa American Chicago youth are trouble. All the good hard working Africa Americans family's moved out. Look at Lincon Mall in Mattson. It's clean over 75% black and you don't feel like your going to get robbed or hurt there. NO BODY WANTS TO LIVE ON CHICAGO'S SOUTHSIDE ONLY GETTO THINKING THUGS THAT DON'T CARE. Remember the MOB ACTION downtown????

Well, somebody has to say this: Many of you are pulling the race card and I understand why BUT this really had nothing racist-motivated. Yeah so all the persons' involved were african-american but remember this..because its important to be fair..that this was one group and to be fair or righteous it should have no reflection of a community as a whole. I would not appreciate it everyone of us who are caucasian were thrown into the same class for various reasons. Think about that before you comment because the same accuzations could be made of one race just because of the actions of a few. That is what I call being realistic and being fair.

No big surprise here. The same crowd that caused this causes the same chaos where ever they move in and take over. Then they run it into the ground and the Jessie Jacksons & Pfleger's cry for the city & uncle sam to fix it.

I was leaving Costco at the time the kids where walking down Cicero and I can honestly say I was afraid they would throw something at my car. The kids were all over the parking lots in huge groups. I used to hang around Peacock Alley years ago and go for a slice a pizza down there and our group of girls would watch groups of guys watching us but we would never jump on cars or hurt anyone. I heard some time ago that John's Garage had to move out because some girl gangs were slicing other girl's faces. You can make the Chicago School system kids start school at 2 years old but parents need to take resonsibility for their kids. My Mom would never have allowed me to act in this manner. The parents keep saying the police need to do something but where does their responsiblilty lie?

I also remember Ford City as "the place to be". As teenagers in the early 80's, we were warned against "Evergreen Plaza being dangerous" - then it spread to Ford City. I was never a super-huge fan of Chicago Ridge Mall, but....it's an OKAY place - for now. I am seriously concerned about it turning just as the other malls had.

There is a huge Outlet Mall in Iowa off of I-80. That should be safe for a while.

These Black youths have not only embarrassed their race, but they endanger the jobs of hundreds of Ford City Workers, many of whom are honest, hard-working BLACKS - in case they have not noticed! What jerks.

This is just a quick glance at a blurred reflection of the current societal condition. This is not a “black or white” issue, this is an overall cultural issue that needs to be frozen like a wart and cut out at the root. The bottom line is that we must stand together and fight for the preservation and prioritization of family and community. In addition, we need to realize that many large developers and development owners are just opportunists that swoop in front of politicians and communities with the dangling carrot of promised “projected” long term revenue/jobs and are just as culpable as anyone in the destruction of the overall sense of community but insulated by plausible deniability. We live in a disposable/consumerist society that doesn’t truly value long term investments in people and sustainable resources, but only value the bottom line investment to profit ratio. Malls and big box stores destroy valuable green space; force out Mom & Pop shops and cause more traffic, air, noise & sound pollution. Let malls and big boxes die by not patronizing them, that’s how you truly “vote” them out.

Obviously, you believe a better system than capitalism is available or you are completely ignorant as to how capitalism works.

Assuming you know how capitalism is suppose to work, you, therefore , opt for some sort of "socialism." Well, why wait for it to come to you. Cuba is just a 1500 miles away. That sure works well!!!! Maybe we can let the morons who ran around Ford City Mall tell us exactly what we should do - I guess that first of all we can just steal things and break things "just for the hell of it."

Who else can we rely on to protect our interests? Our elected officials? No, they’re too busy using our money to buy million dollar ranches with 300 horses; Bruce Lee, Michael Jackson, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King memorabilia, or giving sweetheart deals to those who can advance their careers. Protect your own interests by starting at home and investing in your community. If you see something, you need to say something and take back your community and the pride of ownership that you have lost. Teach your children to become self reliant and not expect to get something for nothing. More importantly, let’s lead by example and place more value on life and education, instead of electronics, cars and shoes.
Most importantly, BAN ALL BOY BANDS! (Just kidding..or am I?)
